united states

Eek is a remote Yup'ik village in western Alaska accessible only by small plane from Bethel, about 42 miles north. No roads connect this community of 174 people to anywhere else. The village sits along the Eek River in flat tundra country with a subarctic climate. Visitors fly into Bethel first, then catch a connecting flight to Eek's small airstrip. The community still uses a traditional fish wheel on the river during salmon season.
