Echo is a small farming town of 500 people along I-84 in northeastern Oregon, about 30 miles from Pendleton and 200 miles east of Portland. Exit 188 connects directly to town, making it a convenient stop on the Portland-Boise corridor. The area's flat Columbia River valley supports wheat and cattle operations. Echo's vintage neon motel sign from the 1950s still lights up the historic Echo Lodge.
