Eagle River is Wisconsin's Northwoods gateway, centered on the famous Eagle River Chain of Lakes. Highway 45 runs north-south through town, connecting to Milwaukee 260 miles south, while Highway 70 heads east to Minocqua. The city hosts the World Championship Snowmobile Derby each January, the oldest snowmobile race in the world, held right on the frozen Eagle River.
