Eagle Nest, NM

Eagle Nest perches at 8,300 feet in New Mexico's Sangre de Cristo Mountains, serving as a key stop on the famous Enchanted Circle scenic drive. US Highway 64 runs right through town, connecting visitors to Taos (30 miles west) and forming part of the 84-mile loop that includes Angel Fire and Red River. The high-altitude location means cool summers and snowy winters. Eagle Nest Lake freezes completely in winter, making it New Mexico's only legal ice fishing spot.
