Dutch John is a tiny community of 31 people in Utah's remote northeast corner, serving visitors to Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Reach it via US 191 north from Vernal (45 miles) or US 530 west from Rock Springs, Wyoming (25 miles). The town sits at 6,100 feet elevation where these highways meet near the Colorado border. Built in the 1950s for dam construction workers, it retains its original grid of government-built houses.
