Dunnellon sits where two rivers meet in north-central Florida, about 20 miles from Ocala via US Highway 41. The rolling terrain and canopy roads feel more like Georgia than typical Florida. Most visitors arrive on US 41 from Tampa Bay or Gainesville, or take State Road 40 west from Orlando through the Ocala National Forest. You can still see remnants of the old phosphate mine that gave the town its name in the 1890s.
