Ducktown is a small mountain town in southeastern Tennessee, about 45 miles from Cleveland via US Highway 64. The area was once home to massive copper mining that stripped the surrounding mountains completely bare. NASA actually used this moonscape-like terrain to train Apollo astronauts. Today it's a quiet community of 456 people surrounded by Cherokee National Forest, with scenic mountain roads that require winter caution but offer beautiful drives year-round.
