Duchesne is a small county seat in northeastern Utah's Uinta Basin, positioned along US-40 about 115 miles from Salt Lake City. The highway winds through the Wasatch Mountains before descending into this high desert valley at 5,500 feet elevation. It's a natural stop between Roosevelt and Vernal, with State Route 87 leading north to Ashley National Forest. The town's red brick courthouse from 1919 stands as one of Utah's finest preserved early county buildings.
