Du Bois is a tiny farming community of about 120 people in southern Illinois, roughly an hour southeast of St. Louis via I-64 and Route 127. The village sits in Washington County's agricultural heartland, surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Most visitors arrive from St. Louis or use Route 127 as a rural connector between Nashville and the Shawnee National Forest area. The town is named after French trader Pierre Du Bois, who established a trading post here in the early 1800s.
