Drain is a small Oregon town of about 1,100 people located on Highway 38 in Douglas County's timber country. The main route runs east-west from Elkton to the coast at Reedsport, making it a waypoint for travelers heading to Oregon's beaches. Most local traffic connects to Eugene via highways 36 and 126, or south to Roseburg. The town sits in a forested valley where Elk Creek meets the Umpqua River, and the original 1870s store built by namesake Charles Drain still operates downtown.
