Dora is a small Walker County city about 35 miles northwest of Birmingham, accessible via Interstate 22 and State Route 269. The rolling Appalachian foothills terrain experiences typical Southern weather with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Local routes connect to Sumiton and Cordova, while longer drives reach Birmingham or the Tennessee border. The town still uses a 1952 fire bell to summon volunteer firefighters.
