Dickens is a tiny county seat in West Texas farm country, about an hour northeast of Lubbock via US Highway 82. The town of 170 sits on the high plains where cotton fields stretch to the horizon. State Highway 70 intersects US 82 here, connecting to other small agricultural communities. The 1891 courthouse remains one of Texas's oldest continuously used county courthouses.
