Diaz is a small farming town of 1,300 people in eastern Arkansas's delta country along the White River. Highway 17 runs north-south through town, connecting to Newport 12 miles south for access to US 67 and Interstate 40. Most residents drive to Newport for shopping or use Highway 14 for local east-west travel. The town is named after Mexican President Porfirio Diaz, an unusual namesake for rural Arkansas.
