Diamond is a small Missouri town of about 900 people in Newton County, sitting along US Highway 71 about 15 miles north of Joplin. Most visitors take Interstate 49 from Springfield (one hour southwest) or Kansas City (2.5 hours south). The town is famous as the birthplace of George Washington Carver, with a national monument preserving his childhood home site.
