Dexter is a small Jefferson County village of 754 people in northern New York, positioned between the Adirondacks and Lake Ontario. Most visitors take I-81 to Exit 40, then Route 232 west for eight miles through farmland. From Watertown, it's a straight 15-mile drive west on Route 232, while Route 3 offers lake views from the east. The village sits along the Black River, where an old mill dam creates a scenic waterfall that's especially dramatic during spring snowmelt.
