DeWitt lies along US Highway 61 in eastern Iowa, about 15 miles southwest of Clinton. Most visitors arrive via US 61, which connects north to Dubuque and south to Muscatine and the Mississippi River towns. The city serves as a bedroom community for Clinton workers, with daily commuter traffic flowing north on Highway 61. The Central Community School District's high school still plays basketball on its original 1950s maple hardwood gymnasium floor.
