Detroit is a small East Texas town of 573 people in Red River County, sitting about 15 miles south of the Oklahoma border. Highway 37 runs right through town, connecting north to Clarksville and south to Mount Pleasant. Most visitors use US Highway 82 as the main east-west route about 10 miles north. The restored 1870s railroad depot serves as a museum explaining how Michigan settlers gave this Texas town its name.
