Derby is a tiny farming town in south-central Iowa with just over 100 residents. Highway 14 runs north-south through town, connecting to Chariton 8 miles north, while County Road S56 provides east-west access. Most traffic is local agricultural and resident travel to Chariton for services. Despite its small size, Derby maintains its own post office and distinct community identity.
