Delmar straddles the Delaware-Maryland border along US Route 13, about 15 miles north of Salisbury. The town literally sits on the Mason-Dixon Line, with State Street marking the border between the two states. Route 13 connects north to Dover and south toward the Eastern Shore, while Route 54 heads east to coastal areas. The town uniquely operates with separate mayors for its Delaware and Maryland sides.
