Defiance sits in northwest Ohio where two rivers meet, creating rich farmland. US Route 24 is the main east-west highway, connecting Toledo (55 miles east) and Fort Wayne, Indiana (35 miles west). State Route 15 runs north-south through town. The city serves as county seat and regional hub for the surrounding agricultural area. It's named after Fort Defiance, built in 1794 by General "Mad Anthony" Wayne at the exact confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers.
