This former gold rush town in the Black Hills draws visitors along scenic US Highway 14A from I-90 or US Highway 385 from Rapid City. The narrow gulch setting preserves its 1870s Wild West atmosphere with Victorian buildings and wooden boardwalks. Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are both buried in the hillside cemetery overlooking Main Street.
