De Soto is a Mississippi River village of 500 people in Vernon County, reached via scenic Highway 35 along the Great River Road. The community sits in a dramatic river valley surrounded by steep bluffs in Wisconsin's Driftless Area. County Highway A connects eastward to Viroqua, while US 18 lies 15 miles north through Lynxville. A historic cable ferry once crossed the Mississippi here until the 1930s.
