Dayton sits along Highway 27 in southeastern Tennessee, about 40 miles north of Chattanooga in the Tennessee River Valley. The town connects east-west via State Route 30 to Spring City and the Watts Bar Lake area. Most visitors arrive from Chattanooga or I-40 to the north. This small city of 7,600 gained fame as the site of the 1925 Scopes "Monkey Trial" in its historic courthouse.
