Dayton Lakes is a tiny community of 85 people in Liberty County, about 35 miles northeast of Houston via US Highway 90. The area sits along the Trinity River corridor where pine forests meet coastal wetlands. Most visitors arrive on US 90 from Houston or Beaumont, with State Highway 146 providing north-south connections. The community gets its name from former gravel mining pits that filled with water and became fishing lakes.
