Damascus is a small mountain town in southwest Virginia where US Route 58 meets several major hiking trails. The town sits about 30 miles from Interstate 81 via US 58, with Virginia Highlands Airport 25 miles northeast. Known as "Trail Town USA," the Appalachian Trail runs right down the main street, making it a popular resupply stop for long-distance hikers.
