Dalzell is a small Bureau County town of about 700 people, sitting along the Illinois River valley roughly 100 miles southwest of Chicago. Take I-80 to the Peru-LaSalle exit, then head south about 10 miles on local roads to reach town via State Route 351. The community sits on bluffs above the river bottomland, where early 1900s zinc mining created an extensive network of underground tunnels that still exists beneath parts of town today.
