Daly City sits just south of San Francisco in San Mateo County, home to about 102,000 residents in a fog-cooled Mediterranean climate. I-280 and Highway 101 provide the main north-south routes, while Route 1 runs along the coast. Most visitors arrive via I-280 from SFO airport (8 miles away) or take BART's Green/Blue lines to the major Daly City station. The city inspired the famous 1962 song "Little Boxes" about its rows of colorful hillside houses in the Westlake neighborhood.
