Dahlgren is a small farming town in southeastern Illinois, 15 miles east of Mount Vernon via Route 15 and Route 142. Most visitors exit I-64 at Mount Vernon and follow this route through Hamilton County's corn and soybean country. The town's grain elevator towers over Route 142 and the railroad tracks, visible for miles across the prairie.
