The main route from Jackson takes Highway 49 south for 45 miles, while Highway 28 provides east-west access through town. Most traffic is local rather than long-distance, with timber trucks common on area roads. The town's unusual name comes from an old railroad depot designation meaning "Depot Louisiana."
