Cylinder is a tiny farming town of 46 people in north-central Iowa, accessible via Highway 18 which runs east-west through the area. Most visitors arrive from Emmetsburg, the county seat 12 miles southeast, or connect from Interstate 35 about 45 miles east. The town got its name from the distinctive cylindrical grain elevator that once towered over the surrounding farmland.
