Cut and Shoot is a small East Texas town about 45 miles north of Houston, accessible via I-45 Exit 85 to FM 1485. The community of under 900 people sits near Sam Houston National Forest among rolling pine hills. Most visitors drive up from Houston in about an hour, while locals use FM 2090 for trips to nearby Conroe. The town famously got its name from a 1912 church dispute when a boy threatened to "cut around the corner and shoot through the bushes."
