Cuney is a tiny East Texas community of 161 people located about 15 miles southeast of Tyler via Highway 155 and FM 2493. The town sits in Cherokee County's Piney Woods, accessible from Dallas via I-20 east to Highway 155 (100 miles) or from Houston via US 69 north through Jacksonville (150 miles). It's named after Norris Wright Cuney, who chaired the Texas Republican Party in the late 1800s.
