Cumberland Gap is a tiny mountain town of 300 people where Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia meet. Take US 25E from Knoxville (60 miles south) or Middlesboro, Kentucky (4 miles north), with US 58 connecting from Virginia. The town sits in the historic Cumberland Mountains pass that early settlers used to reach Kentucky. Cumberland Gap National Historical Park preserves this famous gateway and displays the original 1750 surveyor's compass that marked the exact pass location.
