Cuero, the county seat of DeWitt County, sits along US Highway 87 about 90 miles southeast of San Antonio. This small Texas town of 8,000 is easily reached via Highway 87 from San Antonio or Highway 183 from Austin. The flat prairie landscape and subtropical climate make it prime cattle and turkey country. The city celebrates its claim as "Turkey Capital of the World" with an annual festival and bronze turkey statue in the courthouse square.
