Covington is a suburban city of about 21,000 people located 30 miles southeast of Seattle in King County's foothills. Interstate 405 runs along the western edge, providing the main access route from Seattle and Bellevue, while State Route 18 cuts east-west through town toward the Cascades. The city serves as a convenient stop for mountain-bound travelers and houses many Seattle-area commuters. The 17-mile Cedar River Trail runs right through Covington, following the old pipeline route to Renton.
