Coulter is a small farming town in north-central Iowa, about 15 miles southwest of Hampton via Highway 3. The community sits in Franklin County's rolling prairie landscape of corn and soybean fields. Most visitors arrive from Interstate 35, exiting at Hampton or Latimer to reach Highway 3 west. The town's original railroad depot now serves as the volunteer fire department headquarters.
