Cottonport is a small farming town in central Louisiana, about 90 miles northwest of Baton Rouge. Take US-190 west to LA-1 north from the capital, or US-71 south to LA-115 east from Alexandria. The surrounding Red River valley produces cotton and soybeans on flat agricultural land. The town got its name from serving as a historic cotton shipping point where steamboats loaded bales for New Orleans.
