Cornelia sits in northeast Georgia's foothills where the Appalachians begin to rise. Most visitors arrive via I-985 north from Atlanta to US 441, about 90 miles through increasingly scenic mountain terrain. The town connects locally via State Route 365 to Gainesville and US 123 from South Carolina. The restored 1906 Southern Railway depot downtown now serves as the welcome center.
