Corcoran is a Central Valley farming town about 50 miles south of Fresno, accessible via Highway 43 from Highway 99. The area's flat agricultural landscape features cotton fields and dairies under a hot, dry climate. The city is notably home to California State Prison, Corcoran, a major maximum-security facility that has defined much of the community's character since 1988.
