Coon Rapids is a small Iowa town of about 1,500 people located 65 miles northwest of Des Moines along Highway 141. Most visitors arrive via US 169 north from Des Moines or Highway 30 west from Interstate 35. The town operates Iowa's oldest continuously running municipal electric utility, dating back to 1893.
