Columbus is a small Texas town on US 71 between Houston and Austin, making it a natural rest stop on the 90-120 mile drive between these cities. State Highway 36 runs north-south through town toward Brenham and the coast. The restored 1883 courthouse with its working clock tower dominates the town square and has been keeping time for locals for more than 140 years.
