Columbus is a small border town in southern New Mexico, three miles from Mexico with about 1,200 residents. Reach it via Highway 11 north from Deming (30 miles), which connects to Interstate 10. The town sits in high desert country with a small airport and basic traveler services. Columbus is famous as the site of Pancho Villa's 1916 raid, the last foreign attack on the continental U.S.
