Colonial Heights is a small independent city in south-central Virginia, about 20 miles south of Richmond via I-95. The city sits at a major highway junction where I-95, I-295, US-1, and SR-36 intersect, making it easily accessible from all directions. Most visitors arrive via I-95, which provides direct connections to Richmond, Washington D.C., and North Carolina. The compact downtown area centers around Temple Avenue, and EV charging is available at several locations near the interstate. The city's claim to fame is Violet Bank Museum, where Confederate General Robert E. Lee once had his headquarters during the Civil War.
