Cold Bay is a remote Alaskan community of 145 people located 650 miles southwest of Anchorage on the Alaska Peninsula. No roads connect it to Alaska's highway system - access is only by air through Cold Bay Airport or infrequent ferry service. The town serves as a transportation hub for the Aleutian Islands, with local roads spanning just a few miles around the airport and town center. The airport features a massive 10,400-foot runway, originally built during World War II.
