Cobalt is a small Missouri Ozarks community of 364 people in Madison County, accessible via Highway 72 and State Route 221. Most visitors drive through Fredericktown, about 15 miles east, to reach this rural town surrounded by forested hills. The area was named for historical cobalt mining operations, and old mine remnants still dot the surrounding landscape.
