Coats is a tiny farming town in south-central Kansas, about 70 miles west of Wichita via US Highway 54. The main route runs through Pratt, then north on county roads through wheat country. Most trips are either quick runs to Pratt for errands or longer hauls to Wichita or Dodge City. The town still operates a one-room schoolhouse that's been teaching local kids for generations.
