Clute is a small city in Brazoria County, about 50 miles south of Houston via Highway 288. Most visitors drive down from Houston in about an hour, while locals use Highway 332 to reach nearby Lake Jackson and Freeport. The town sits on the flat Texas coastal plain with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Clute hosts the annual Great Texas Mosquito Festival, complete with a 26-foot fiberglass mosquito statue that's become the town's signature landmark.
