Clayton is a small farming town of 600 people in Adams County, about 15 miles northeast of Quincy via Illinois Route 104. The area features rolling prairie farmland typical of west-central Illinois, with corn and soybean fields stretching between woodlots. Quincy Regional Airport sits 20 miles southwest for air travel. The town preserves an 1868 one-room schoolhouse that now operates as a local history museum with original furnishings.
