Clayton is a small county seat in southeastern Alabama with about 2,300 residents. Highway 431 connects it north to Montgomery (65 miles) and south to Dothan (45 miles), while Route 30 runs east-west through town. The area features rolling hills and pine forests typical of Alabama's coastal plain. The 1904 Barbour County Courthouse with its distinctive clock tower dominates the town square.
