Clay Center is the county seat of Clay County in north-central Kansas, located along US Highway 24 about 45 miles northwest of Manhattan. The main routes include US 24 running east-west through town and Kansas Highway 15 providing north-south access. Most visitors arrive via US 24 from either Salina (30 miles west) or Manhattan, with Interstate 70 travelers typically exiting at Salina. The city is notable for housing the Clay Center Zoo, one of only a few accredited zoos in Kansas.
